Checkout & Payments

Record free tickets in your store

By default, free tickets are claimed instantly in Eventually without going through your store. You can route them through Squarespace checkout instead so $0 orders appear alongside paid purchases in your order history.

When to use this setting

Turn this on when you want free tickets to be recorded in your connected store. This is useful when you need a single view of all orders, or when free tickets are part of a mixed paid and free event and you want consistent order tracking.

Leave it off when you prefer the faster RSVP-style instant claim for free-only events.

Enable the setting for an event

  1. Go to Events and open the event you want to edit.

  2. Scroll to the Checkout section.

  3. Turn on Record free tickets in your store.

  4. Save your changes.

How free tickets behave

The setting changes only how free-only orders are handled. Mixed orders already route through the cart automatically.

  • Off (default) — Free tickets are claimed instantly in Eventually. Attendees register without going through Squarespace Commerce checkout.

  • On — Free tickets are routed through your connected store. A $0 order is created and appears in your store order history alongside paid purchases.

Missing store page warning

When you turn on Record free tickets in your store, that event now requires a Squarespace Commerce store page just like a paid event. If your connected Squarespace site has no store page, the missing-store-page banner appears for that event.

What buyers see

Free-only orders with the setting off — Buyers complete a quick RSVP-style registration. They provide their details and receive a confirmation email without entering the Squarespace checkout.

Free-only orders with the setting on — Buyers go through the same Squarespace Commerce checkout as paid ticket buyers. The cart total is $0, no payment is required, and the order is recorded in your store.

Mixed paid and free orders — These always go through the cart and checkout together, regardless of this setting. The free ticket is added to the same cart as the paid ticket, and the buyer completes checkout once for the whole order.

Test the flow

  1. Enable Record free tickets in your store on a test event.

  2. Open the event page as a buyer and select a free ticket.

  3. Proceed to checkout and verify the order completes as a $0 order in your store order history.
