Checkout & Payments

Choose when to collect attendee details

When attendees register for your events, you can choose when Eventually collects their custom registration information—before checkout, after purchase, or not at all. This timing affects how the purchase flow works and what your attendees experience.

Three collection modes

Eventually offers three modes for collecting attendee details:

  • Before — Attendees fill out registration fields during checkout, before completing their purchase. This is the default behavior.

  • After — Attendees complete their purchase first, then receive a follow-up email with a link to fill out their registration details on a dedicated completion page.

  • Off — Attendee registration fields are not collected at all. Use this for events where you don't need additional information from guests.

Set the default for new events

You can set a team-wide default that applies to all new events you create.

  1. From your Eventually dashboard, click Customize in the left sidebar.

  2. On the Event Defaults page, find Attendee info collection.

  3. Choose Before, After, or Off.

  4. Save your changes.

When you create a new event, it will use this default. You can override the setting for individual events.

Change the setting for a specific event

You can customize the attendee collection timing for any event, regardless of your team default.

  1. Go to Events and open the event you want to edit.

  2. In the event details section, find When to collect guest details.

  3. Select Before, After, or Off.

  4. Save the event.

Per-event settings override the team default.

What attendees experience

Before mode

When an attendee selects tickets and proceeds to checkout, any custom registration fields you've configured appear in the checkout flow. The attendee completes their information and payment in one session. This works best for events where you need registration details before confirming the booking.

After mode

The attendee completes their purchase first. After the order is processed, Eventually sends them a follow-up email with a link to complete their registration details.

When the attendee clicks the link, they land on a dedicated completion page that shows:

  • Before completion: Complete your registration details with your custom registration form

  • After completion: You're all set! confirmation

This mode reduces friction during checkout and is ideal for events where you want faster registration or where attendees might be registering from a mobile device.

If you use After mode, make sure automated emails are enabled so attendees receive the follow-up link. You can customize the follow-up email in your email settings.

Off mode

The attendee completes checkout without seeing any registration fields. No follow-up email is sent. Use this for simple events or ticketed experiences where you only need the attendee’s name and contact information from the checkout itself.

Free events

Free events follow the same Collect details setting as paid events. Before shows extra questions during RSVP. After sends them via email after the RSVP. Off skips extra questions.

Name and email are always collected for an RSVP regardless of the mode you choose.
